Turkey Studies Working Group

Who we are

We are students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers at Philipps-Universität Marburg with an academic interest in contemporary Turkey. Our members come from a range of academic fields and disciplines, including politicial sciences, cultural studies, media studies, and Islamic studies. We welcome anyone intersted in expanding and enriching our perspectives on Turkey.

What we aim to

We want to critically explore, discuss, and analyze current events and developments in Turkey. We want to employ multiple perspectives and provide space for diverse and controversial viewpoints. We want to connect students and researchers who share an interest in contemporary Turkey studies.  We want to increase the visibility of contemporary Turkey studies in German academia. We want to provide a “safe” and respectful space for discussion and exchange.

 What we do

We organize teach-ins, panel discussions, film-screenings, and exhibitions. We inform fellow students about current social, political, and cultural trends and developments in Turkey. We engage audiences in critical discussion and dialogue. We attend external events together.

Next Meeting: Updates will follow soon.
