Research or entrepreneurship – what drives scientists?

Many researchers face the question: Should I publish my findings in academic journals – or use them for practical applications, perhaps even for founding a company?

In this Master’s thesis, you will investigate which incentives and obstacles scientists at the University of Marburg experience in the process of knowledge transfer. Topics include:

• Publications vs. patents
• Invention disclosures & spin-offs
• Personal motivation & structural barriers

The goal is to understand the most important influencing factors and to derive recommendations for promoting entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer at universities.
The thesis will be written in paper format, and there is the possibility of later publishing the results jointly with the project supervisors in an academic journal.

Please note: The master's thesis can be written in German or English.
