Neurobiological Research

A characteristic of psychiatric disorders is a mostly inadequate understanding of the biological causes of disease development and progression. A better understanding of the molecular, cellular and network-based factors can contribute significantly to a better diagnosis and therapy of mental disorders.

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy has its own modern wet research laboratory to ensure a close link between basic neuropsychiatric research and clinical research projects. By means of genetic, immunohistochemical, optical, viral and electrophysiological methods, new disease models of psychiatric disorders can be established and characterized down to the cellular level.

In addition, the neurobiological research laboratory is essential for the processing of blood and tissue samples from the numerous clinical research projects.
