Nuremberg Moot Court 2014

In the summer semester of 2014, the Nuremberg Moot Court in International Criminal Law was once again held at the original venue of the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials, in Courtroom 600. This is a student competition in which proceedings before the International Criminal Court are simulated. According to co-organizer Professor Dr. Markus Krajewski, Chair of Public Law and International Law at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, it is “for the upcoming Moot Court competition in the field of international criminal law.”

Accordingly, the bench of judges was highly distinguished, including the former German judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Judge Professor Wolfgang Schomburg, and the Minister of Justice of the Free State of Bavaria, Professor Dr. Winfried Bausback. The Moot Court is co-organized by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy and also by the ICWC in Marburg. The ICWC additionally supervises the Moot Court as a specially practice-oriented course for Marburg students. In 2014, a Marburg-Gießen team consisting of Linn Sophie Stordal-Wichelhaus, Tobias Römer, Leonard Wolckenhaar, and Joscha Müller participated for the second time.

The student participants in Nuremberg came from a wide range of universities across different continents, including Kenya and several American colleges. Against this background, the joint team of four law students from different semesters at Philipps University Marburg and Justus Liebig University Giessen was especially pleased to be awarded the prize for the best prosecution brief at the end of the competition. Special thanks go to Marie Scheffler and Dr. Ignaz Stegmiller, who accompanied the team as coaches.
