Feedback and Advice on Academic Writing in English

General

This service is for students who produce academic writing in English and would like to receive feedback and (optional) advice on their writing. You will receive my written feedback and can choose whether you'd like a face-to-face, online or no advising session. Regardless of which option you choose, this service is completely free of charge for students at Philipps University Marburg.

Here's how it works

• Book an appointment from our booking page (even if you don't want the advising session).
• Send your writing (max 3 pages) by email to Ruben Bieker at the latest one week before your appointment.
• In your email, say whether you'd like a face-to-face advice session, online advice session or no advice session.
• You will receive written feedback from me within one week.
• If you chose to have an advice session, come to my office (or log on to my BBB room) at the booked time.

Some important things

• The absolute maximum amount of text that you can send me per appointment is 3 pages (Arial 11 or Times New Roman 12, single-spaced).
• You can book only two appointments per month.
• I will give you feedback on your use of English, your style, your text organization and your formatting, not in any way the content of your writing.
• This is not a proofreading/correction service, but a way for you to improve your writing by receiving feedback, so I may not correct all your mistakes, but sometimes only point out what can be improved.
• You can submit English writing that you produce for your classes, but it is your responsibility to avoid plagiarism; you may have to acknowledge that you received assistance (if in doubt, speak to your professor).
• You can of course also submit writing that you produce just for practice.
