Presenting to the public differs greatly from presenting to your fellow scientists. If you have to convince an interdisciplinary review panel to grant your proposal, want to gain support for a new project, or present your work to the general public you will have to change your game.

In this workshop, you'll learn what makes a presentation effective, learn about comprehensibility, and tailor your message to a specific audience. You will learn about your strengths and weaknesses and also have the opportunity to work on a specific presentation.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will

  • Know what distinguishes a comprehensible text from an incomprehensible one,
  • Know how to write for listeners instead of readers,
  • Are able to transform a scientific lecture into an interesting presentation for an audience outside your field of expertise, and
  • Have improved your individual presentation style.

Didactic Methods

Presentations, analysis of best and worst practice examples, individual and group work
