Are you aiming to publish your research in leading social science journals? The peer-review process often feels like a "black box," creating uncertainty for early career researchers navigating the road to publication. At the same time, Open Science requirements are becoming the new industry standard across disciplines, adding a layer of complexity to the submission process.
In this session, you will meet two editors of the European Journal of Political Research (EJPR) for a dual-focused workshop. First, we discuss the editorial workflow. You will gain insights into the "ins and outs" of decision-making to help you navigate the process from submission to acceptance. Second, we address the rapidly evolving landscape of Open Science. You will learn how to manage requirements regarding data access, replication materials, and research transparency.
We will guide you through the submission and review process, explaining not only what is required to meet high editorial standards but also why these practices are becoming essential across the social sciences. You will receive practical advice on how to prepare your manuscripts and replication packages to avoid common pitfalls and desk rejections.
Following the structured input, you will have the chance to engage with the editors in an informal Q&A session. This is your opportunity to ask specific questions about the decision-making process, acquire advice on passing the "desk stage," and receive feedback on your publication strategy.

- You understand the editorial workflow and decision-making processes typical of leading international social science journals.
- You are able to identify the criteria editors use to assess manuscripts, helping you improve your chances of acceptance in competitive journals.
- You are familiar with the fundamental principles of research transparency and why they are increasingly required for publication.
- You know how to prepare your research data and code to meet general standards of reproducibility and transparency.
