Climatology and Environmental Modelling

Übersicht

Today, global changes in climate and land use and the as yet largely unknown effects (impact research) on societies and ecosystems (biodiversity, ecosystem services) are among the greatest interdisciplinary challenges not only for research and teaching within the environmental sciences but also for society and politics. In response, the international community has established two expert committees: the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IpBES) based in Bonn.

The Climatology and Environmental Modelling group aims at training experts in the fields of environmental change and impact analysis at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels and contributing to the acquisition and transfer of knowledge in society and politics.

Its methodologies in teaching and research encompass satellite and ground-based measurements, and numeric modelling.

Methodological skills are key to success beyond university. Owing to thorough methodological training graduates are sought after by many employers such as the German Meteorological Service (DWD) or Lufthansa's route planning department.
