Consultation and Mentoring Services

Apart from providing funding, preparing junior scholars for a career within or outside of academia is among the key tasks of the MArburg University Research Academy (MARA). MARA offers various consultation formats to assist and support junior scholars in decision-making, career planning, as well as in the development of necessary skills for a career within and outside the university. Our consultation services are tailored to the needs of the various target groups.

Individual Consultation

MARA offers doctoral candidates and postdocs an initial consultation tailored to their individual needs in matters pertaining to the doctoral or postdoctoral phase and beyond. Please find additional information here.

Consultation Services for Skills Development

MARA offers consultation services in matters of skills development for doctoral candidates and those interested in pursuing a doctoral degree. Please find additional information here.

Individual Writing Consultation

In addition to our workshops, doctoral candidates with MARA membership have the opportunity to discuss their individual writing-related questions and issues in a confidential meeting with a writing consultant. Please find additional information here.

Coaching

We have been placing increasing emphasis on individual coaching, which we are also happy to provide in the context of your participation in a workshop. Following an initial interview, we will gladly put you in touch with a suitable trainer and provide funding for individual consultation, especially in matters concerning career planning, reviewing your application for third-party funding, communicating academic content, as well as communicating with your audience. Please find additional information here.

Collegial Consultation

One of the day-to-day challenges junior scholars face at a university is that they frequently lack an opportunity to discuss issues of concern with one another and, on occasion, a trusting environment in which to do so. To this end, MARA offers coaching to familiarize a group of junior scholars at Philipps-Universität Marburg with the tool of collegial consultation and assist this group in the process over a period of time. Please find additional information here.

MEWISMA "Academic Career" Mentoring Program

In 2017, the universities of Gießen and Marburg are offering a mentoring program for postdocs who would like to receive consultation and support from a mentor in taking the next steps in their academic career. You can additionally benefit from various events and specific workshops. Please find additional information here.

Additional Mentoring Programs Offered by Philipps-Universität Marburg

Philipps-Universität Marburg offers additional mentoring programs for female junior scholars, some of which are coordinated across the state of Hesse.

  • ProMotivation addresses female students and graduates of the humanities and social sciences at Philipps-Universität Marburg

  • Mentoring Hessen offers four lines of funding (ProCareer.MINT, ProCareer.Doc, ProAcademia, and ProProfessur) for female students to emerging professors
