Activism in the Internet
The project's second year will be concerned with questionss of political activism in the internet. Especially the events in the Arabic World, labeled as "Arabic Spring", have pointed to the importance of all forms of digital (mass) communication. Contrary to the idea of a global validity of the events, the project locates itself within the realm of national, European and global cultures. The respective national, political cultures serve as a basis for digital political activism, which are regarded in the context of national media and communication situations. These are different in Turkey, the Netherlands and Germany. These different media cultures will be reflected within the project and discussed with regard to specific internet activities. The general goal is to develop ideas about a shared European dimension of internet and political activities that is about to overcome national boundaries.
The projects wants to approach students from the BA and MA programme 'Media Studies' and similar programmes from the partner universities in Istanbul, Maastricht and Marburg
Expected is a detailed knowledge of the political and social situation of the involved countries, knowledge of the media situation and the platforms of political communication.
