Start and duration of classes

In the summer semester 2013, teaching at the language centre begins on 22nd April and ends regularly on 12th July. This makes 12 teaching weeks. The last week in the semester (15-19 July 2013) can be used to make up for classes that did not take place because of public holidays or absence of the teacher.

There will be no classes on the following days:

Wed 1st May  (Labour Day)
Thur 9th May  (Ascension)
Mon 20th May  (Whitsun)
Thur 30th May  (Corpus Christi)

Please note that the course times refer to the precise time of day (i.e. no "academic quarter")!

Certification / Credits

At the end of the semester, detailed course certificates will be awarded to all successful participants. These certificates state the number of credits and the grade that was gained by the participant. Upon request, certificates can be handed out with a simple "Passed"-notice rather than the grade.

One requisite is regular attendance, i.e. of a weekly class no more than 2 sessions may be missed (in the case of classes with 2 sessions per week a total of 4 sessions respectively). Exceptions can be made in individual cases and are tied to particular conditions, provided that no more than 25% of the classes have been missed.

For successful completion of a course students are expected to work about the same number of hours outside class as the hours spent in class.

Course materials

In general, the material to be used in class will be supplied by the language centre. In the event that certain teaching materials (e.g. text-books) need to be bought by the participants, this will be mentioned in the course description.

Number of participants

The minimum number of participants for each class is 10. The maximum number may vary from case to case but will not exceed 20.

Course fees

The amount due for each class is stated in the course descriptions under Kursgebühr. It includes costs for the course materials which will be supplied.

The lowest amount mentioned under "Kursgebühr" is the one to be paid by members of Philipps-University. The higher fees are to be paid by external participants who can register for courses when there are vacancies (cf. Terms and Conditions §2)

Course fees will be debited from the participants' bank account; payment in cash will not be accepted!

In case that the course fee cannot be debited because an incorrect bank account number was given or because the account is not covered, the language centre will have to charge the participant 3€ per attempt to debit the fee.

Classrooms

The location of each class is stated in the course descriptions on the website of the language centre. Most classes take place in the language centre itself, whose rooms are fitted with multi-media equipment.
