IT Solutions

The departmental IT administration at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is responsible for hardware, software and network of the IT infrastructure. It executes the acquisition of PCs, laptops, servers, peripheral devices and enhancements. The IT administration also provides basic and specialized services on its own servers, and they make pre-configured Windows and Linux installations available for students and staff members. Furthermore, it also operates departmental computer labs and provides basic configuration support to staff and professors.

Contact

The IT administration is a group of staff and assistants. Though we appreciate the personal contact, we kindly ask our colleagues within the department to send us any questions and requests to itadmin@mathematik*. That way we can assign the task to a colleague, depending on vacation, sick leave, and current workload. You can also speak to us in person on site; on some matters concerning account management this will be necessary. Room 04D05 to 04D09, in the hallway in front of the departmental library. We are easiest to reach between 10 a.m. and noon and between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

User account and Email

You will need a department account (@mathematik.uni-marburg.de) in order to use any of the department’s computers. This account is independent of your students or staff account from the Hochschulrechenzentrum (the Uni Marburg’s central IT department). To create a departmental account, please send an email from your @staff.uni-marburg.de or your @students.uni-marburg.de email address to useradmin@mathematik.uni-marburg.de.

To use the departmental email services, you can either access your own mails via the webmail portal or you can configure your account using an email program such as Thunderbird or Outlook. Below is the information you will need in order to do that.

Please use the IMAP service for reading.

Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp.mathematik.uni-marburg.de
An encryption method should be selected (TLS or SSL) and the user name should be displayed (SMTP AUTH). "Use secure authentication" must be disabled.

Further information and the locations of the printers can be found on the web pages of the Hochschulrechenzentrum. There are also staff printers available in the department. Please ask your colleagues or secretary where the nearest printer is.

To use wireless Internet access you will need a staff/student user account from the Hochschulrechenzentrum. Further information on this and on setting up wireless Internet access can be found on the Hochschulrechenzentrum web page.
