Welcome to the Department of Islamic Studies

The department of Islamic Studies aims to promote the study of the Religion of Islam and of the historic development of related societies and cultures from the origins of Islam in the 7th century until present times.

Studying Islamic Studies at Marburg University provides you with the knowledge of:

- the history of the Islamic world

- the religion of Islam in all its forms

- Islam in Europe

- Contemporary popular cultures among Muslims in a transregional perspective

- the most relevant languages for Islamic Studies: Arabic, Persian and/or Turkish.

Further, you will get a closer look at the Near and Middle East through:

- Journeys, internships, language courses and semesters abroad in order to gain intercultural competences and deepen your knowledge of the languages of the region. These skills will then open up to you a broad field of job opportunities.

The Department of Islamic Studies is part of the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS) of the Philipps-University of Marburg and belongs to the Faculty ofForeign Languages/ Philologies (Faculty 10)
