Choosing Modules

Modules from the English department

Students that study at the English department from the summer term 2026 onwards can no longer choose singular courses, but have to take entire modules. To participate, you need to have an English proficiency of at least B2 (CEFR), because the courses will be taught entirely in English.

We offer courses in the main areas of literature and cultural studies, linguistics and language skills. Whereas the modules stay the same for every semester, the courses themselves change in each semester. The current selection is available from the 2nd of August (for the winter term) and from the 2nd of March (for the summer term).

The module list for the English department can be found on Marvin, if you go to LE Anglistik und Amerikanistik. You will get a certain amount of ECTS points and a grade after completing an entire module by passing all examinations. Modules can consist of one or two courses. Sometimes, these courses are only offered once a year, so plan wisely. Some modules can be finished in only one semester, some take two, so think about the length of your stay, as well. The following document mirrors the list on Marvin and also includes a description of each module to help you incorporate them into your studies.

UE stands for a either a lecture-style course or a practical course, PS stands for an intermediate level seminar, HS stands for an advanced level seminar.

Modules from other departments

You can take any module from another institute that belongs to the department of Foreign Languages, which includes Romance Studies and Classical Languages and Literatures. Furthermore, you can take any module from another department if it is listed on Marvin under Marburg International Exchange MIX. Note that, if not stated otherwise, the language of instruction in these modules will be German. For questions, make sure to talk to the respective departmental coordinator.
