Before Arriving

Are you planning on studying at the English department at the Philipps-University Marburg? If so, then let this be your first welcome to our department.

At our department, you can take courses in literature, linguistics, language practice, cultural studies, and language teaching. In order to take English courses, you need at least a language level of B2 (CEFR), so keep that in mind when applying.

Here you can find information on what modules you can take, what courses are available this semester, how to register for modules, courses, and examinations, and how to fill out your learning agreement or course list.

If you need information that is not related to the English department, please contact the International Office. They will help you organize your stay abroad, your finances, your housing, and so on. If you plan on staying abroad at a different department, have at a look at the departmental coordinator that is responsible for you. If you have any further questions related to module choice and registration, learning agreements, and ECTS points in the English department, please contact the departmental coordinators.

Terms

At the English department, the winter term lasts from mid-October to mid-February and the summer term from mid-April to mid-July. Have a look at the current schedule.
Most classes are offered once a week and last 90 minutes. If not stated otherwise, courses will always begin at quarter past and end at a quarter to the hour that is indicated in the course catalogue. That means, for example, when a course time is listed as 8-10 it will start at 8.15 and end at 9.45 am.
