Getting there

Arrival by train

Directly opposite the main railway station is the stop for buses heading towards the city centre. Please take a bus to the stop “Elisabethkirche.” The journey takes approximately 4 minutes. Buses operate at short intervals between the main railway station and the city centre. For exact departure times, please consult the RMV or Deutsche Bahn.

Arrival by car

Coming from the north or south on the B3 urban motorway, take the exit “Mitte” and drive towards the city centre, crossing the Lahn bridge. At the junction at Rudolfsplatz (with a direct view of the building of the Old University straight ahead), turn right into Biegenstraße, which after a left-hand curve becomes Deutschhausstraße. Parking options in the immediate vicinity of the Department of Geography and Elisabethkirche are limited.

On foot

The Department of Geography is approximately a 10-minute walk from the main railway station. From the station, walk straight ahead along Bahnhofstraße to the intersection and turn left into Robert-Koch-Straße. Continue along Robert-Koch-Straße. Immediately after the small bridge (which crosses a side arm of the Lahn known as the “Schwarzes Wasser”), turn right into Firmaneistraße and follow it, passing under the archway (before the archway, on the left-hand side, is the Carolinenhaus (Deutschhausstraße 12), which already houses several working groups and seminar rooms of the Department of Geography) until you reach the opening Firmaneiplatz. To your right (slightly set back, directly next to Elisabethkirche) you will find the Deutsches Haus (Deutschhausstraße 10). This building accommodates most of the Department of Geography’s working groups, lecture halls and seminar rooms, the geolab, the Geography student council, the examinations office, student common rooms, and in the basement the so-called “Ochsenbraterei.” The latter is the former “Herrenküche” (gentlemen’s kitchen) of the Deutsches Haus and is now used for many department-internal celebrations.
