Orientation to the start of your studies
Received your admission - what's next?
If your application was successful and you received an admission: congratulations! With this, you have taken an important step towards your studies - we look forward to welcoming you soon at the Department of Geography.
As soon as your matriculation is complete, you will receive access to the online portal MARVIN of the University of Marburg. There you can, among other things, download your certificate of matriculation and view your personal data. At the same time, your student account will also be activated - this gives you access to your university email address, digital learning platforms, the university's WIFI and the offers of the university library.
Start the first semester well prepared now
The time until you start the lectures, offers you the opportunity to prepare for the start of your studies and to get to know the diverse aspects of campus life at the University of Marburg. For example, take care of accommodation in Marburg in advance, familiarise yourself with the most important platforms and contact points of the university and plan the first organisational steps.
There are no compulsory or voluntary preliminary courses for the study programs at the Department of Geography. However, it is worthwhile to familiarise yourself in advance with the study structure, the timetable system and the module manual of your chosen course of study as well as the basic functions of MARVIN and ILIAS. Helpful information and initial guidance can be found on the information pages for first-year students and of course on the information pages for our study programs.
The introductory week (OE-week): The ideal start to your studies
A special highlight before the official start of the studies is the introductory week (OE week), which always takes place before the start of the winter semester. This week you will not only get to know the department, the campus and your fellow students, but you will also receive valuable support in creating a timetable, information on exam modalities and practical tips for your everyday study life.
The OE Week is organised by the Geography Department together with the Geography Student Council - visit the student council's website regularly for up-to-date information on the work of the student council and the OE program.
You have further questions about the start of your studies? We are happy to help!
If you have any questions during your preparation or at the beginning of your studies, you can contact the student advisory service at the Geography Department at any time. The Geography Student Council is also at your side with tips and experience - uncomplicated and at eye level.
Numerous further information about studying in Marburg - from living to financing to free time - can be found on the central information pages for first-semester students of the university.
