Deanery of the Department of Geography
The Deanery manages the department and is responsible for all tasks not assigned to the Faculty Council (see § 51 I HHG).
The Deanery consists of the Dean, the Deputy Dean, and the Dean of Studies. The members of the Deanwry are elected by the Faculty Council, and their term of office is three years (see § 51 IV + V HHG).
The Dean represents the department within the university. The Dean exercises supervisory authority over university members under § 37 III Nos. 3 and 4 HHG who are not assigned to a unit of the department. The Dean ensures that all teaching staff at the department properly fulfill their teaching and examination obligations. The Dean also proposes personnel measures for the department’s staff to the university administration (see § 52 HHG).
The Deputy Dean acts as the representative of the Dean.
The Dean of Studies is responsible for tasks related to teaching and study that are permanently assigned to them. In particular, the Academic Dean ensures that a proper and complete course offering is provided in accordance with the study and examination regulations and follows up on student reports regarding deficiencies in teaching and examinations or non-compliance with the study and examination regulations (see § 5 IV HHG).
