  You have already produced your first independent academic work and demonstrate the potential to advance to the level of a W2 or W3 professorship. Typically, a W1 professorship is aimed at researchers from Germany and abroad at the R2 qualification level, usually up to four years after earning a doctorate. We advertise W2 professorships as tenured positions or as development professorships with a tenure-track option leading to a W3 professorship.

  You have earned an outstanding international scientific reputation, developed a recognized research profile at the highest level, and are active in leading international research networks. In the case of a clinical professorship, you must be qualified to serve as a chief physician. Typically, a W3 professorship is aimed at researchers from Germany and abroad who already hold at least a W2 professorship or have independently led junior research groups and are firmly established at qualification level R4.
