Sound Documents

Our sound archive contains about 6,000 sound recordings of German dialects. These go back historically to the beginnings of sound recording (end of the 19th century) and are available on various media (e.g., shellac record, tape audio cassette).

Large parts of the language recordings, such as all Wenker phrase translations from various corpora (e.g., "Mittelrheinischer Sprachatlas", "Preußisches Wörterbuch") are freely available online. The analog audio recordings are continuously systematically indexed and digitized.
