Our special library contains approximately 38,000 volumes on regional language research and the history of science. The systematically indexed regional language research literature is mostly in open access and includes historical grammars of places and landscapes, dialect dictionaries, current and historical literature on dialectology, variational linguistics and dialect geography as well as relevant periodicals and journals.

In addition, some extremely valuable holdings (rara and rarissima) are kept in a closed and specially air-conditioned area. Also integrated into our holdings is the working and private library from the estate of Georg Wenker.

All holdings are listed in the bibliographic subject database GOBA (“Georeferenced Online Bibliography Areal Linguistics”).
