„Unique Traits, Computational Insights: Studying Super-Recognizers for Societal Applications”

Over the past years, so-called Super-Recognizers (SRs), humans with an apparently innate superiority for processing facial identity, have received increasing interest from science and law enforcement (Russell et al., 2009; Ramon, 2021). Despite the apparent hype, relatively little is known about the underlying mechanisms and boundary conditions of SRs’ “super-power”. In this talk I will provide an overview of the multi-methodological studies my lab has conducted to change this information void. I argue that a genuine understanding of highly proficient cognitive processing and its potential for application requires an approach that deliberately incorpo-rates individual differences, and does not limit itself to conventional testing with quick and simple behavioral assessments.
