Young Faculty Network

The Young Faculty Network supports the tenure-track professors and other scientists at career level R3 (qualification goal appointability) of Philipps-Universität Marburg on their way to successful establishment in the academic system.

The network promotes scientific exchange across disciplinary and departmental boundaries. The visibility of its members in the national and international research landscape is increased, thereby strengthening their competitiveness.

  • Membership

    The Young Faculty Network is composed of:

    • Tenure track professors at Philipps-Universität Marburg before the interim evaluation,
    • Junior research group leaders at the Philipps-Universität Marburg, and
    • Postdocs at Philipps-Universität Marburg after their successful interim evaluation.

    In order to be informed about and benefit from the network's offers, please register in our database (not yet active).

    By registering, you will automatically be added to the list . Via this list you will receive information about the current calls for proposals and networking activities and you can exchange information with each other directly via this list.

  • Networking Activities

    The Young Faculty Network regularly organizes networking meetings and the annual meeting of its members. We are happy to support you in implementing your own formats according to your ideas. Get in touch with us!

    The first annual meeting took place on June 6, 2023 in the context of the Scientist's Day. The next annual meeting will be on June 19, 2024.

  • Funding Line A: External Networking

    This funding line supports your contacts with research institutions in Germany and abroad. It enables you to invite external guests or apply for a travel allowance for your trips to cooperation partners. 

    Within the funding line, each member can apply for up to EUR 3,000 in total.

    Call for Applications

    • You can apply for reimbursement of travel expenses up to EUR 3,000 for your own trips. Please use the form (fillable PDF) and send the application to .

          - Applications can be submitted by members of the Young Faculty Network on an ongoing basis.
          - The purpose of the trip must be to establish or expand a (new) academic collaboration or to promote academic exchange.
          - It must be accounted for as a business trip via the department/institution.

    • For guest invitations, you can apply for reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs up to EUR 3,000. Please use the form (fillable PDF) and send the application to .

          Applications can be submitted by members of the Young Faculty Network on an ongoing basis.
          The guest invitation must have the aim of establishing or expanding a (new) academic cooperation or serve the purpose of academic exchange.
          Billing is handled by the department/institution.

  • Funding Line B: Internal Networking

    The Young Faculty Network promotes your formats for internal networking. It is a prerequisite that at least three members of the network from at least two departments, institutes or centers would like to initiate a joint, new research topic. Other scientists, including external ones, are welcome to participate.

    Call for Applications

    • - Applications can be submitted by members of the Young Faculty Network on an ongoing basis.

      - Two other members from another faculty, another institution or another center are involved.

      - External academics can also participate.

      - The venue must be Marburg or the surrounding area.

      - Applications must be submitted at least 3 months before the first day of the event.

    • Eligible costs

       - Travel and accommodation costs for external speakers (according to Hessisches Reisekostengesetz)

      - Meals/catering (according to Bewirtungsrichtlinie)

      - Costs for event materials (including printing costs)

    We support you through individual consultations on your questions. For special issues, we also offer coaching with external trainers.

  • Appointment Culture and Tenure Track

    Philipps-Universität continuously develops the quality management of its appointment processes. The core elements of the Marburg appointment culture are laid down in four guiding principles and, in the sense of a procedural culture, are taken into account in all phases of appointment procedures – regardless of whether a tenure-track professorship or a permanent professorship is to be filled.
