The workshop addresses doctoral candidates and postdocs from the humanities and social sciences and provides practical assistance in writing academic publications. During the workshop, we will discuss the general structure and “choreography” of academic publications. We will address issues such as how to think about and develop a “storyline” and “take-home message” and how to organize key elements of your article.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • You will be familiar with the general structure of academic publications.
  • You will have a clear understanding of how to approach the task of writing papers.
  • You will be aware of the principles for planning, analyzing, and writing academic papers.
  • You will be able to outline the most important elements of a first draft.

Didactic Methods

Trainer input, practical training, discussions, individual feedback, and group discussions of your texts

Requirements

Prior attendance of our “English Academic Writing for the Humanities and Social Sciences” is recommended but not mandatory.
Please bring two or three publications from your field of research that might serve as a model for your planned publication. Think about the key message of your planned article and a rough outline of your argument.
Please bring a laptop if available.
Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.

We kindly ask you to confirm your registration to make it binding. You may cancel your registration up to twelve days before the beginning of the course without providing specific reasons. Thereafter, you will be required to pay the attendance fee even if you do not attend the course.
