Permanent Academic Posts
In line with the ‘Code of Good Practice for Employment at Hessian Universities’, Marburg University adheres to the principle of offering permanent contracts to staff who primarily perform long-term duties. This may apply to roles in academic administration, the management of laboratory facilities, the supervision of major equipment, or positions within the organisation of degree programs.
In order to meet the professionalisation demands of permanent responsibilities in research, teaching and the diverse tasks within the academia and academic support sectors, it is essential that highly qualified staff are retained at the university on a long-term basis and that their skills are continuously developed. Marburg University is establishing novel career pathways to this end, thereby empowering researchers at the outset of their careers to secure permanent, independent, and autonomous positions within the academic sector, in parallel with a professorship. Following a favourable evaluation, this results in a permanent appointment.
University Lecturer Specialising in Teaching, Research or Management (Lecturer, Researcher, Academic Manager)
The newly established career paths, focusing on teaching, research or academic management, are advertised as Lecturer, Researcher or Academic Manager positions and each includes a structured tenure-track phase.
The positions are aimed at early-career researchers (R2) who have completed their PhD. While proof of independent research output following the PhD is not required, significant potential for development towards R3 level is expected.
The tenure-track phase is designed to facilitate tailored professional and academic development and is structured with a high degree of flexibility. Regardless of their specific role, university lecturers work independently in both research and teaching.
