Application Procedure
The teaching language of the programme is English. Applicants are therefore required to provide proof of English language proficiency at level C1, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The programme is open to students holding a completed B.Sc. degree in Economics or Geography (Human and/or Physical). Applications from graduates of both German and international universities are welcome.
Applicants with a commensurate qualification may also be eligible. A Bachelor’s degree is considered commensurate if the following academic criteria are met:
-
A minimum of 50 ECTS credits must have been obtained in conceptual or academic modules.
Of these, at least 30 ECTS credits must be in Economics or Geography. Up to 20 ECTS credits may be from Social Science disciplines. -
In addition, at least 10 ECTS credits must have been completed in research methods.
Relevant areas include quantitative and qualitative empirical research methods, empirical economic research, econometrics, mathematics, statistics, or cartography. These credits must demonstrate foundational knowledge of methods, rather than advanced application.
Fulfilment of these criteria will be assessed by the admissions committee.
Applying before completion of the Bachelor’s Degree
Applicants who have not yet received their B.Sc. certificate may still apply, provided that at least 80% of the required coursework has been completed by the application deadline. Proof of academic progress must include:
-
An official transcript of records
-
The overall average grade based on completed modules
Enrolment in the master’s programme is conditional upon successful completion of all Bachelor’s degree requirements by 30 September. The official Bachelor’s certificate must be submitted no later than the end of the first teaching period (February of the following year).
