Course Content
All courses in the M.Sc. Sustainable Development are taught in English. The programme is delivered by internationally recognised experts from Economics, Human Geography, and Physical Geography, reflecting its strong interdisciplinary orientation.
The curriculum is structured into the following module areas:

Background Modules
Establish a shared academic foundation and ensure a common knowledge base for students from different disciplinary backgrounds. -
Core Modules
Introduce the key concepts, theories, and perspectives related to sustainable development and transformation in Economics and Geography. -
Specialisation Modules
Enable students to develop advanced expertise in Economics as well as in Human Geography or Physical Geography, with a strong emphasis on the application of knowledge to empirical and practice-oriented questions. These modules are typically taught in small groups, fostering intensive academic exchange and focused engagement with specific sustainability challenges. -
Methods and Analytics Modules
Provide training in empirical, quantitative, and technical skills, including approaches such as statistical analysis, empirical social research, environmental modelling, and geospatial methods. -
Elective Modules
Offer opportunities for individual specialisation and profile development, allowing students to tailor the programme to their academic interests. -
Optional International Semester
Allows students to gain international academic experience at one of the university’s partner institutions. -
Interdisciplinary Colloquium & Master’s Thesis
Conclude the programme with an independent research project, integrating conceptual, empirical, and methodological competencies acquired throughout the course.
