Internship year (PJ)

Dear Students,

You’ve almost made it!

You are in the final stretch of your medical studies, and we are very pleased that pediatrics has drawn your interest and that you are thinking about an elective internship in the field of pediatrics and adolescent medicine. Below we would like to summarize briefly what you can expect during your internship with us.

The following is a brief overview of your internship trimester at the Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.

For detailed information, please see our practical year internship flyer (PDF)(GER).

Procedure for your trimester

So that we can get to know you and you can get to know us and our focus areas at Pediatric Clinics I and II, you will be rotating through all the wards at the Pediatric Clinics during your first three weeks.

As an orientation, you will be using the rotation routing sheet at the Center for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (PDF)(GER); you must cycle through it in full. After you have had a chance to look at all the wards, you will have the option of splitting the rest of your trimester among 2 wards.

The following wards are available for selection:

  • Ward 039: Neuropediatrics / General Medicine

  • Ward 042: Neonatology

What our PJ students say about their tertial at the Marburg Children's Hospital:

“A very nice team where everyone is always willing to teach both theoretical content and practical skills. I always had the feeling that I was in good hands and not being kept busy with useless tasks.”

“During my final year, I was able to work in the pediatric clinic as a full member of the team. We often had pediatric training and teaching opportunities several times a week, so we were able to learn a lot in theory and practice and prepare ourselves for the start of our careers. The idea of teaching was strongly present among all colleagues and I felt very comfortable on the ward every day. I can really recommend anyone to complete their pediatrics tertial in Marburg.”

“The rotation in pediatrics is a unique experience. The team - consisting of doctors, residents and nursing staff - is very friendly and helpful. Likewise, the rotation on the pediatric ward is well structured as it includes both practical and theoretical components led by a lecturer. This strategy allows us to expand our knowledge and skills. Overall, there is a special atmosphere during the pediatrics rotation. As an exchange student, I can say from my own experience that I felt comfortable throughout my tertial. The doctors always showed interest in my learning progress and patiently answered my questions. I also had a very pleasant experience with my fellow students, as we supported each other to do better work and learn more. I can only recommend the pediatrics rotation at the University of Marburg.”
