Students-as-Partners pilot project in pediatrics

What is this project about?

We would like to redesign part of the pediatrics curriculum with you as student partners (Students as Partners, SaP) in a pilot project at the Children's Hospital. Together with medical colleagues and the teaching coordinator, you will not only help develop the curriculum for two electives, but you can also become active in peer teaching within the electives and evaluate, continuously improve and help shape the electives. The electives and learning objectives have already been developed in an initial SaP project in the summer term of 2025 and we are very much looking forward to implementing the electives " general pediatrics" and "pediatric emergency medicine" into the pediatric curriculum for the first time after the winter term of 2025 and the summer term of 2026.

Both electives can be taken separately or in combination; in our SaP team, we refer to the combination as a “super elective”, which replaces our former specialization curriculum in paediatrics and  complements the two ‘small’ electives “Case Presentation” and “Journal Club” as well as our block internship in paediatrics. Overall, both electives should be inclusive, dynamic, practical, interprofessional, cooperative, interesting, innovative and deepening your pediatric knowledge and skills.

What are your advantages?

  • You can actively influence the teaching content (theory and practical skills) of future students.
  • You can play an active role in shaping the didactics and get involved in the exciting and very broad subject of pediatrics.
  • You can gain your first teaching experience through peer teaching.
  • You will gain an insight into the SaP approach and university structures.

The next SAP project will start in the winter term 2025/2026 and aims to develop the didactic design of the learning objectives as well as the concrete planning and implementation of the two electives.

Who can take part?

Students of human medicine in the clinical study phase who have already completed the block internship in pediatrics or have a great interest in pediatrics. A maximum of 4 Students will be enrolled.

Please send your applications with your name, matriculation number and a short letter of motivation (max. half page) to the teaching coordinator Ms. Huber by 15.09.2025 at the latest:

What the SaP team from summer term 2025 says

How did you experience working together as partners?

“ Very motivating, fulfilling, exchange of ideas, pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, everyone had space to speak and to say whatever came to mind.”
“At eye level, appreciative, openly, communicative.”
"The collaboration was respectful and extremely productive at all times. Deciding everything as a team was a completely new experience that permanently changed my perspective  about the role of students and teachers in higher education,  because both sides share the common goal of creating a learning experience that is state of the art and recognizes and values students as active participants in teaching and sees teachers as partners who support them with their expertise and attitude and create a learning environment in which teaching is seen as a shared task."
“I found the partnership-based collaboration very pleasant, inspiring and motivating.
Very positive, lots of joy and appreciation, lots of fun developing new ideas together.”

What three words would you use to describe the SaP project?

  • Exchange of ideas, teamwork, creativity
  • Goal-oriented, communicative, open
  • Team spirit, innovation, fun
  • Valuable, enriching, innovative
  • Inspiring, partnership, joy
  • Innovative, versatile, appreciative
