Open Access Publishing with De Gruyter journals

Philipps-Universität Marburg (UMR) participates in a Publish & Read transformative agreement with De Gruyter including around 100 hybrid journals of the social sciences and humanities and some fully gold Open Access journals.

Publishing in a hybrid journal (otherwise closed access)

A hybrid journal publishes single articles in open access usually after paying an optional fee. The transformative agreement enables to publish manuscripts open access without paying such a fee. Under the terms of the agreement corresponding authors of Philipps-Universität Marburg can publish their articles in 104 De Gruyter hybrid journals with immediate open access at no additional cost to the author.

Publishing in fully gold open access journals

In a gold open access journal all articles are published freely available without an embargo, but an article processing charge (APC) has to be paid. Under the terms of the transformative agreement, corresponding authors of Philipps-Universität Marburg will receive a 20 % discount on the list prices for their researchers' publications (APC) in fully open access De Gruyter journals.

The APC may be funded partially or fully by the Open Access Publishing Fund up to 2,000 EUR incl. taxes. Available third-party funding for publishing has to be used with priority. If the article is eligible for funding and the APC exceeds 2.000 EUR the applicant has to cover the rest and has to provide a cost center.
