Borrowing Books from the Central Library

Marburg University Library (UB) possesses large open-access holdings which can be searched in Katalog Plus. These books can be located by their shelf-mark (call number) or by means of the integrated virtual map of the building. You can take these media directly from the shelves and use the automated self-check terminals to borrow or to return them during Library opening hours.

More detailed information on the Branch Libraries is available under the relevant locations.

If you have not been successful in finding a book with the status available in Katalog Plus, or if you have been unable to locate a specific journal issue in the open-access stacks, you can request the clearing centre to investigate the whereabouts of the medium you require, and they will try and locate it for you promptly.

If you want to borrow a medium from the closed stacks, the first thing you have to do is find the required title in the catalogue and then order it for delivery to the collection shelves. The shelves are sorted according to the last four numbers on user ID cards (Ucards). The relevant numbers are to be found under the barcode on the back of your Ucard.

Automated self-check terminals are available for you to borrow or return books. Select the function “borrow”, then place your Ucard in the marked space, then enter your Katalog-Plus password and put the books you want to borrow in the designated field.

Please observe the borrowing rules of the Library.

The Ucard also serves as your library user ID.

It must be activated by the borrowing department before you can use it to borrow books.

The borrowing department is located at the long counter area directly opposite the main entrance.
