Somatoform Disorders

Somatoform disorders are among the most frequent mental disorders. They are associated with high disability and increased health care utilization and characterized by symptoms that suggest physical illness while they cannot be explained fully by a general medical condition or by the direct effect of a substance. The Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy studies explanations for this conditions by investigating perception and appraisal of symptoms as well as illness behavior. Furthermore we develope and evaluate psychotherapies for the treatment of somatoform disorders and study the underlying psychological factors, moderators and mediators.

Currently the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy runs the following research projects:
